Bay Area FitFam "Gather" for a Virtual 10k March 14
/This month the Bay Area shifted into the Red Tier opening up more fitness options to residents including indoor gyms at 10% capacity, some low intensity classes like yoga and personal training. And of course outdoor HIIT classes and outdoor gyms continue to help users find safe ways to stay sane during what seems like an endless COVID purgatory.
Noticeably absent from the fitness scene during the pandemic are big organized races like 10k runs, half and full marathons. While the right thing to do, not having gatherings like these have left a gap in the hearts of many running enthusiasts who love the motivation they provide to get out and move, to train for a goal and to feel connected to their fitness community and city.
As a personal trainer and an active member of the Bay Area fitness community my clients and fellow trainers came to me struggling with how to get motivated and fit while staying safe. So dozens of us, many in the Bay Area as well as expats across the country, have decided to do something proactive and are running a 10k this weekend. The rules are simple: everyone can run where they feel safest but must obey all social distancing practices and laws and wrap up by 12p on Sunday when we'll celebrate together via a ZOOM victory circle. The Bay Area Virtual 10k is free and open to anyone who wants to join in on the fun. Just message me for the ZOOM party info.
Pacific Heights resident and tech lawyer Ana Guardado says "I'm so glad we're doing this virtual 10k race. I needed this to get me motivated to start running; I haven't been running this regularly in years and now I have this to train for and it's so much fun and I can't wait to get out there and do my first ever 10k virtually with everyone while staying safe." Adds Jess Thye, former SF resident and current New Yorker, “ I think a virtual race is appealing because it allows us to set goals and participate participate in a race in the closest way possible to 'normal' - a built in cheering squad, accountability, and of course the motivation to get out and be part of an event, complete a milestone - during a time when most days just bleed into each other!"
